10 Sturdiest Used Pickups and SUV’s
This list could have easily been called 10 sturdiest or longest lasting used vehicles in general, since that list too would have been dominated by pickups and SUV’s altogether. I guess this shouldn’t really come as a surprise since Pickups and pickup-based SUV’s are generally built to last in much tougher conditions than conventional cars.
Rarely anyone holds to its car for more than a decade, and even less these days. That is to say, rarely a used car manages to get 200,000 miles under its belt. Even that’s a bar set way too high. People down at iSeeCars have used this as their criteria in order to determine which of available cars in the U.S. market can brag with the longest lifespan. They have browsed through a huge sample of no less than 12 million used cars sold during 2015, and built between 1981 and today, and came to a conclusion that pickups and SUV’s take the biscuit. Hit next in order to find out which pickups and SUV’s fare best and how they fare against one another.
10. Toyota Tacoma
Durability has been one of Tacoma’s very few advantages throughout the last decade or so, and it comes as no surprise that Toyota’s smaller pickup ranks as high among most durable cars. Around 2.5% of Tacomas with more than 200,000 miles on their odometers are still in action.
9. GMC Yukon And Yukon XL
Yukon has been around the block for less than 25 years, but it’s already one of sturdiest full-size SUV’s out there. Around 2.7% of all Yukons sold last year have passed the 200,000 mark, while percentage for larger XL version amounts to 3.2%. This makes Tahoe and Escalade’s sibling one of longest lasting cars overall. This is also the perfect moment to mention the only sedan among these SUV’s and pickups: Toyota Avalon with same percentages as the smaller Yukon.
8. Chevrolet Tahoe
Well, it’s basically very similar car to aforementioned Yukon, hence no surprises here. Of all used Tahoes on the road, 3.4% have already pushed well beyond 200k miles.
7. GMC Sierra 2500HD
Heavy Duty pickups making an appearance here. You should have guessed that one. Sierra 2500 is a tough three-quarter ton truck which has been on the roads for quite some time. Around 4.6% of all Sierra 2500HD trucks sold last year have already passed the 200,000 mile mark.
6. Chevrolet Suburban
Suburban is yet another car tightly connected to Yukon and Tahoe. With that said, it comes as no surprise that full-size SUV showcases such extreme longevity. 4.8% of all used Suburbans sold last year have traveled more than 200,000 miles already.
5. Toyota Sequoia
It’s actually a tie between Sequoia and Suburban as same 4.8% of full-size SUV’s have already managed to get 200k miles or more under their belts.
4. Ford Expedition
Blue Oval’s largest SUV is one of precious few used cars that have more than 200,000 miles on their odometers. Furthermore, around 5% of all sold Expeditions have managed to accomplish that feat.
3. Toyota 4Runner
4Runner is yet another Toyota’s nameplate on the list of sturdiest used pickups and SUV’s. It’s not surprising since Japanese aren’t showing the intent to abandon body-on frame SUV design. Of all sold 4Runners in 2015, 5.2% of them have passed the 200k miles mark.
2. Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
It all comes down to heavy duty pickups now. Chevy Silverado is the runner-up here as 5.7% of all used Silverados have managed to travel north of 200,000 miles.
1. Ford F-250 Super Duty
You’ve probably guessed it. Pole position belongs to Ford’s three-quarter ton truck F-250 Super Duty. This is the case because 6% of these workhorses with more than 200,000 miles on their respective odometers are still on the streets.
