Ducati’s 1299 Superleggera “Project 1408”: Images Leaked!
More Details About The 1299 Superleggera Emerge!
Updated August 15, 2018
Even more information seems to be leaking out of the Ducati “Project 1408” 1299 Superleggera website, and finally, we can see a few images of exactly what the motorcycle will look like. Again, it’s just worth mentioning that these photos have already leaked all over the place: social media, blogs, and online magazines…even though Ducati had explicitly mentioned not to do so with the threat of a legal battle thrown in for good measure. Since the information is already everywhere, for those with the eyes to look, we’re going to follow the same trend and post the pictures too. Let it be noted that we got the images from a third party, and not from Ducati’s password protected microsite. That’ll hold up in court, right?
Either way, this must’ve been part of the plan anyway, because the buzz that it’s created is palpable. We’re only hours away from the formal unveiling of the 1299 Superleggera, but until then, enjoy these pictures.
What we can see is that the “Project 1408” boasts a whole load of carbon fiber, from the frame to the swing arm, features a V-twin Superquadro engine that boasts 215 hp, and that extra oompf comes courtesy of the very high tech Akrapovic exhaust. The exhaust is probably the most disappointing looking thing on the bike, but we’ll take function over form any day of the week. As for the rest of the technical specifications, we’re going to have to wait and see.
We do know that the Superleggera boasts a light weight, and a high price tag, with a dry weight of 150 kg (330 lbs) and a cost of around $80,000 USD…And to make things even more exclusive, Ducati are limiting production of these bad boys to a mere 500 units. Which is great, if you’re mega-rich and have a penchant for expensive things. Because we’re having a tremendous drought of expensive luxury bikes for the super elite, aren’t we? Sarcasm very much intended there.
We’ll have to wait until EICMA to find out exactly how exclusive these machines are going to be.
