1932 Ford Sedan Beautified by Meticulous Work and a Surprising Engine

Austin Speed Shop Created a Work of Automotive Art With This Special Build

Published October 12, 2017

As far as Ford hotrod cars go, this Blackburn’s Sedan based on a 1932 Ford chassis maybe one of the most intriguing builds out there. Developed and built as an ultimate expression of the Hot Rod ethos by Austin Speed Shop – owned by Mike Blackburn – it features an exceptional set of modifications. These make it, possibly, the most outstanding piece to ever come out of the shop.

Look at that metal. Finessed and exceptionally well dressed for the occasion, the bare metalwork looks stunning. It makes the whole prospect of the Hot Rodding that much more appealing. Especially with that proud engine sitting uncovered.

The engine, however, is not the work of Ford.

Mike Blackburn, a serious admirer and a fan of the Cadillac, used the quad-deuce fed 390 engine produced by Caddy. It’s the best possible solution as the sheer look of the thing fantastically fits in with the styling of the Deuce Sedan.

The building process of this magnificent machine has been more than challenging. Austin Speed Shop restored a body which laid out somewhere for half a century. While the exterior of the body was not actually fully finished (it will stay without a coat of paint, because Hot Rod), the chassis, engine, and drivetrain have been meticulously detailed.

Considerably dropped after installing the SO-CAL Speed Shop 1932 chassis, the Deuce Tudor feels perfectly stanced and exceptionally well-planted as well.

To make it all work as well as possible, Mike Blackburn opted to use the Wizard Fab Steer Clear setup, complete with a Juliano’s column shift and Vega box.

The 390ci Cadillac engine has been refreshed with a quartet of Stromberg 97 carburetors and an Edelbrock CD-694 intake. Furthermore, the Sanderson tube headers feed a stainless exhaust with Porter mufflers. Maybe the most important improvement had been the addition of the Phoenix Transmissions 700-R4 mated with a Wilcap adapter.

All in all, bask in the glory of this exceptionally well-sorted Ford Sedan outfitted by the best hardware in the business, and not destroyed by the modern-age styling. It’s a fabulous piece of automobilia and a true testament to the skill of the team at Austin Speed Shop.

About Safet Satara

I do not have spare time. All there is is car time. 12 years and counting. I am a Central European gearhead, but you are probably thinking - aaa a disposable Borg drone! Well, actually, I like to dress up like James Bond too. The only thing I need to be him is an Aston Martin (and I love DBS more than DB5 because, reasons). That's something I guess.
