2011/12 Chery Eastar
Published February 22, 2011
The Chery Eastar was Cherys first large sedan, it gained large initial sales but was quickly out classed by local and international products in the Chinese market. For 2011 and 2012 Chery are planning on bringing the Eastar name plate back on top of a new vehicle, although it seems like this Eastar has bulked up slightly with a new wheel base of 2768mm 68mm longer than the last model. What is the aim of the Eastar? Well we can put a guess at the government procurement list as the Eastar will be one of the roomiest cars in the 100,000rmb to 200,000rmb price bracket. Underneath the Eastar will be rocking Macpherson suspension at the front and a multi link set up at the rear, meaning it should be a reasonable ride.
Chery have reported to the government body responsible for issuing production license that Chery will be using 1.8L and 2.0L engines in the Eastar, but its likely that Chery will be introducing turbo units later in the year. The Eastar will be launched at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2011 and an eventual launch date will probably be in the third quarter.
