2012 Jaguar XF
Updated September 18, 2012
The luxury sedan from Jaguar, the 2012 XF gets decent upgrades for its looks this year. Originally re-launched in 2008 with a goal to replace the old S Jaguar, the 2012 Jaguar XF series had its latest member revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The 2012 version sees the V8 engine being dropped out in place of a turbocharged V6.
Five engine options are available for the 2012 Jaguar XF. Three of them are diesel variants while the other two run on gasoline. Of the three diesel powered engines, the first is the 2.2 liter four cylinder engine that gives out 187 HP and 332 lb-ft of torque. Being turbocharged instead of being naturally aspirated, it manages to get to 62mph from stop in a matter of 8.5 seconds- nothingvery pretty, but still decent. The top speed available with this variant is 142 mph. A 3.0 liter twin turbocharged engine that carries 237 HP with 368 lb-ft of torque, is capable of running up 62 mph in a matter of 7.1 seconds with a top speed of 149 miles an hour. Finally there is a stronger 3.0 liter V6 twin turbocharged engine capable of producing 275 HP with 442 lb-ft of torque is also available. This can bring the 2012 Jaguar XF up the top speed of 155 mph with the 0-62mph time of 6.4 seconds.
The petrol engines available for the 2012 Jaguar XF are a 5.0 liter V8 variant that carries 385 HP with 380 lb ft of torque ad a 0-62 mph time of just 5.7 seconds. If this was still not enough for you, there is a 5.0 liter V8 turbocharged engine that carries a whopping 510 HP under its belt. It produces 461 lb-ft of torque and gets to 62 mph in just under 5 seconds at 4.9 seconds. Both these engines are electronically limited to 155 mph though, and sadly so for a speed lover.
The exteriors have been pumped with better hood, grille and front fenders. The exteriors are elegant and look pleasing to the eye. The front end carries bi-function Xenon lit lamps. Wheels are available from 18 inch to 20 inch variants. The interiors of the 2012 XF series have always bettered the exteriors- not that the exteriors are any less- and the 2012 model happens to be no less in this regard- only better. A seven inch touchscreen sits out amidst seats that have been based on the “hoop” design. This design not only improves the overall look of the interiors but is also more comfortable to sit on. New color have also been put on the center stage with the color scheme being applicable to all the parts including the dashboard, steering wheel, the infotainment system etc.
To put it all together, the 2012 Jaguar XF is a pretty decent machine with sporty exteriors and interiors that try to batter out in terms of both eye candy and comfort. With as many as five variants available for the engine at prices ranging from $49,915 to $105,320, there is a wide range to choose from according to your pocket. And you can definitely rest assured, you are in for an awesome ride- no matter which one you choose.
