2013 Maserati Granturismo

Maserati is for the individual who wants to drive a unique yet spectacular vehicle. A Maserati doesn’t just project the ultimate image of class and sophistication, it simply is. They are the marquee vehicle for the person who wants to stand apart from the cliché and overstatements of a Lamborghini or a Ferrari. In the world of big wealth and high class those are cars for the ‘New Money’. Owning a Maserati is indicative of an individual who is educated about high end cars and wants an automobile that shows they’re not just another ‘All cash and no class’ One Percenter.
There’s not much to dislike about the 2013 Maserati Granturismo. It’s sexy and sleek and gorgeous from any given angle. There entire point of this car is understated sophistication. It would be a challenge to find a more handsome car in production. The single complaint that any driver seems to have is that the only department the Maserati Granturismo is somewhat lacking is there seems to be more glory than guts. This despite the 405hp under the hood. Another fifty to a hundred horsepower would be greatly appreciated. Although there is a saving grace. It is possible to press a button and launch into Sport Mode. This mode certainly boosts torque and throttle response noticeably. As well in Sport Mode the suspension tightens up the handling and has surprising grip. But there is no escaping the feel of the weight of the Granturismo. It’s just a little too conservative and sensible for anyone who is looking for the true performance. But that wasn’t Maserati’s point. That was not the effect they were going after. There was no deception on their part about the role and function of the Granturismo. It was to be a moderate and sensible sport coupe that was also comfortable and easy to drive. That’s what they intended and that’s what the car provides.
But being ever reasonable and attentive to the desires of their audience Maserati listened to its critics and decided to offer an even more exciting version. Enter the Granturismo Sport. It’s equipped with a 4.7 liter V8 topping out at a much more satisfying 460hp. Maserati has implemented what they refer to as Diamond Like Coating on the cam shaft lobes and tappets which reportedly reduces friction and therefore increase overall smoothness of engine operation. The 2013 Maserati Granturismo also includes the Sports Mode which when activated immediately calibrate the suspension and transmission for maximum performance capabilities. Also the exhaust valves open and increase the throaty and aggressive engine tone that reminds you that this car loves to play. If you’re a more play less work type you can option for the automatic six speed ZF transmission rather than the six speed manual. But it’s a safe bet that if someone is opting for the Granturismo Sport trim they’re going to want total control of the gearbox.
The 2013 Maserati Grantursimo is a distinguished coupe that exudes sophistication with a healthy does of playful excitement.
