2013 Porsche 911 Carrera 4
Updated February 8, 2017
Even Porsche knew that making an all wheel drive version of the 911 Carrera wasn’t going to be for everyone. And indeed there are pursists and enthusiast out there bitching and moaning about it. But one thing nobody can argue with is the superior handling and traction it provides. And in a Porsche a person should be happy with all the traction they can get.
The 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera will come in four models: the 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and 911 Carrera 4S with both those models available in both Coupé and Cabriolet. The new Carrera is going to be 44 mm wider in the rear body with 10 mm wider rear tires than the traditional two-wheel-drive 911. A wide sports car is always better for a variety of performance reason but it also happens to look particularly hot on a Porsche. There are a few minor tweaks in the style department, which is fairly standard for Porsche. And, as usual, those changes are only ever improvements on what is already perfection.
The 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 is a 7-speed manual dual clutch transmission matched with a 3.8L flat-six engine producing 350 horsepower. The 911 will do 0 to 60 mph in roughly 4 seconds and is capable of a top speed of 177mph. And if you happen to be driving the 911 and are at all worried about your fuel economy, the 911 has a highway fuel consumption is rated at just under 2 gallons for every 60 miles in the Coupé. Of course the slightly heavier Cabriolet is going to consume closer to 2 full gallons to cover the same distance.
The boosted 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S manages 400 horsepower and completes the 0-60mph dash in just under 4 seconds. The 4S model has a top speed of 185mph with the cabriolet just a few miles per hour slower than that. With the 4S you can expect a fuel efficiency of 2 gallons for a 60 mile range. And again the Cabriolet is higher than that by a little. But unless you’re traveling across the Nevada desert or caught in the mountain roads of the Rockies it’s highly unlikely you’ll really care about the fuel consumption of your 911.
The 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 (yes that is a mouthful) will be officially unveiled at the end of the month at the Paris Auto Show. The price tag will range anywhere from $103,900 for the 4 Coupé to $134,100 for the 4S Cabriolet. And despite that price you can expect Porsche will sell loads of them.
