2018 Bentley Continental GT As An Exposition Of Art, Style and Luxury
British Pureness The 2018 Bentley Continental GT Is

High-fashion without the oddness. That is the new 2018 Bentley Continental GT – a car so well designed it further blends the line between car design and art.
Despite looking as a fine evolution compared with the first and the second generation GT, the latest Continental GT is actually a fundamentally different car.
In order for the designers (headed by Stefan Sielaff) to create such a fine piece of design, Bentley engineers actually had to change the underpinnings of the car. While the last version is based on a slightly redesigned version of the Volkswagen Phaeton platform, the new one takes it all from the 2018 Porsche Panamera. Hard to find a better solution really.
So, you may ask what does a new platform have with the design!?
The engine now sits further back and it is positioned more centrally. Also, the rear end seems to be hunkered down further accentuating the sporty character of this stunning grand tourer. Panamera platform also enables the Bentley to use all of the latest tech Volkswagen developed. In that case, designers have much more freedom, as they don’t have to play by the old-tech constraints.
Head designer Sielaff said that the design of the new 2018 Bentley Continental GT was influenced by airplane fuselages, mechanic movement of wrist watches and crystal glasses. If you look closely at the front lights, you may see some of that crystal glass pattern. Also, inside teams with similar details complementing some pieces reminding us of the mechanic movement of the watch.
2018 Bentley Continental GT With Unlimited Personalization Options
Luxury is at its best in here. Bentley offers 15 different colors for the leather, officially. Yet, it will probably grant every wish one may have with the 2018 Bentley Continental GT. Unlimited is the word that comes close to describing the options on the car. Bespoke creations will certainly widen personalization options to extremes.
Even as standard, the range consists of 17 exterior paint finishes (70 different hues available), 15 carpet options, multiple handcrafted veneers and more. After all, one may even select massive 22-inch wheels for those who want something flashier than entry-level 21-inch wheels.
While the exterior certainly flaunts with modern British elegance, the interior design features pieces that phenomenally link the old and the new, sophistication and sport, classic design and modern touch. The most astounding feature certainly is a rotating three side piece in the center of the dash. This, on one side, features a massive navigational display, on the other side a fantastic three gauge design and on the third side a fine trim matching the rest of the dash. It is hard to go more British than this.
It is Fast, Luxurious, But, It Seems Also More Efficient Than Ever Before
The car features two different packs – the City Specification and the Touring Specification. Do not think for a second that one is less expensive than the other. Bentley is not about value, it is about elegance, sophistication and tailor-made luxury.
In that regard, the City Specification will get you hands-free boot opening, pedestrian warning, traffic sign recognition, and city braking systems, as well as a top-view camera.
Touring Specification, tailor-made for long journeys, will grant you adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist, active lane assist, a head-up display, night vision with an infrared camera, and pre-sense breaking.
All of this technology, including the new air suspension adopted from other high-end VW products, powers a 48-volt electric system. Obviously, it is the same system as on the Q7, Panamera, or the new Cayenne. The suspension system with special anti roll hardware and a whole lot of customization takes a lot of energy.
And, of course, we get to that engine. It is an updated version of the one from before. Six liter W12 with 626hp can take the car to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds. It will also go as far as 207 mph on the top end. Rather incredible for such a massive machine. But Bentley did invest heavily into making it efficient. The steering is electrical, the engine has a cylinder deactivation system, its new dual-clutch eight-speed transmission has coasting option and the engine will cut off at stops. This actually makes it capable of covering 23.2 mpg.
