2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Spied and Filmed

Spy Shot! The 2018 Shelby GT500 Emerges!

Updated October 29, 2018

They said we ain’t gonna see the GT500, but we knew better. They said GT350 and GT350R are gonna remain the only Shelby Mustangs of this generation, but we didn’t believe them. It turns out we were right all along. New Mustang prototype has been caught in action by the KGP Spy photographers, and it’s likely the strongest of the Shelbys, although Mach 1 name has been circling around lately as well.

This possible 2018 Shelby GT500 mule is heavily camouflaged, but specific details have shattered Blue Oval’s intentions to hide their future range-topping Mustang from us. For instance, the mule packs a huge wing spoiler, larger intakes and beefier hood. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires hiding the large Brembo calipers also promise a lot. But most importantly, Shelby GT500 mule hides the “TT-0081” sticker upon the windshield. That’s the same sticker we saw on Ford F-150 Raptor’s glass.

This means that the new flagship Mustang might easily come with forced induction engine. In fact, that’s pretty much the only way Blue Oval could go in this instance. Chevy Camaro ZL1 and Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat already pack between 650 and 700 horsepower, and by 2018, they might as well up the ante even further. This basically eliminates naturally aspirated V8 from the equation. In other words, either supercharged or more likely, twin-turbo units remain in the race.

Apart from the strongest Mustang production engine to date, new 2018 Shelby GT500 should come with the new 10-speed automatic transmission. Hopefully, people down at Ford won’t forget to offer the optional manual sticker with it. There’s still plenty of time before the flagship sixth generation Mustang arrives, so we expect Ford will throw at least a few more surprises at us. Reveal date might come soon, though. Late 2016 (Los Angeles) or early 2017 (Detroit) look like the most realistic options. To sweeten up the deal, here’s the video where you can check prototype Mustang’s sound as well.

About Nikola Potrebić

Despite driving a piece of junk, Nikola still manages to survive the harrowing experience called "A road trip in a Yugo," day in, day out. On the other hand, precious few things move him as muscle cars do. Especially those from the bygone golden era, which makes him wonder why wasn't he born a few decades earlier? Well, at least he's been given the opportunity to enjoy the likes of the Pontiak Aztek, Chrysler PT Cruiser, Fiat Multipla, and other lovely millennials, right? Come to think of it, I'll stick with my Yugo. Thank you very much.
