Retro-Cool: The 2018 Kawasaki Ninja Z900RS Café
Introducing The 2018 Kawasaki Ninja Z900RS Café!
Kawasaki take their retro modern Z900RS to the next level with the 2018 Kawasaki Ninja Z900RS Café – a modern street bike outfitted with retro good looks. While we were already suitably impressed with the regular Z900RS that Kawasaki formally unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show, the next model in the range has really blown us away. It’s definitely not going to be to everyone’s tastes, but given the current trend in retro-modern motorcycle, we think that Kawasaki have hit the nail on the head with this offering.
The 2018 Kawasaki Ninja Z900RS Café
Riding the coat tails of Yamaha’s Faster Sons program, and following in the footsteps of Honda and Suzuki, Kawasaki have been quietly developing the Z900RS for the past year, but when the Z900RS was formally unveiled in Tokyo, we thought that was the end of it. Essentially, it was a modern version of an old classic, which seamlessly mixed the beautiful curves and shapes of yesteryear with modern technology and rock steady reliability. Hooray for Z900RS, right? But it seems like Kawasaki were keeping their powder dry for Milan’s EICMA show.
While the standard Z900RS is striking, Kawasaki have taken it to the next level with the 2018 Kawasaki Ninja Z900RS Café. If you’re a fan of the retro-modern trend, then this should have you wetting your proverbial knickers. Equipped with traction control, a slipper assist clutch, LED lights and fully adjustable suspension, the Z900RS Café isn’t that much different to the Z900RS…but this one has a bikini fairing.
And that bikini fairing is the selling point. People will pay for it. In terms of performance, the Z900RS Café isn’t as powerful as the donor. The 948cc inline-four engine produces 110 hp (which is down from the Z900RS’s 125 hp) and 73 lb-ft of torque. It’s a definite victory of form over function, but the form is pretty damn good and the function isn’t inhibited by the aesthetics.
At the moment, there’s no official word on the pricing and availability for the 2018 Kawasaki Ninja Z900RS Café, but Kawasaki would be foolish not to offer this obvious crowd pleaser to US customers.
