2018 Toyota RAV4 Adventure Tows More And Looks Better
Important Advancements For The 2018 Toyota RAV4 Adventure
Published September 28, 2017
Toyota calls it the 2018 RAV4 Adventure, yet besides some exterior off-road touches, this particular car does not exactly feature important advancements for enhanced off-road ability. Luckily, with the car revealed a while back in February, Toyota showed us that they did improve some aspects of the drivetrain. For example, the car now has a slightly raised suspension (6.5 inches of ground clearance). It also has slightly more rugged looks and skid plates protecting key areas.
While it may look the part, it is not made to go on a quest for some rugged off-road. In fact, the name Adventure (with the Tow Pack as standard, mind you) here stands for its improved capability to haul stuff – like a boat, a trailer with some cool stuff or anything with up to 3500 lbs of weight.
Usually, for non-RAV4 Adventure models, the tow rating is a rather low 1500 lbs. To improve the tow rating, Toyota had to redesign the cooling by introducing a special oil cooler and transmission cooler.
The car will hit dealerships soon starting at $28,695 (with the destination charge included).
2018 Toyota RAV4 Adventure Not Available as a Hybrid
Although the 2018 RAV4 Adventure pack comes as an option for the four-wheel drive and two-wheel drive models, it actually isn’t available on the hybrid model. That means the only option for it is a 2.5-liter petrol engine developing 176 hp. Not exactly a powerhouse is it?
Now, we did mention the front-wheel-drive option for the car as well. The RAV4 Adventure pack works there as well, but the tow capabilities aren’t as profound as on the AWD car. With the FWD, this new RAV4 can tow up to 2,900 lbs, which is still markedly better than its predecessors.
Apart from some exterior additions, a better tow-suited drivetrain and skid plates, the Adventure introduces us with mock carbon fiber interior trim panels, a cargo area power outlet, flared fenders, black 18-inch rims, and black headlight and fog lamp housings.
The car can be finished in Black, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Silver Sky Metallic, Super White, and Ruby Flare Pearl.
Also, buyers can select the optional Cold Weather Package, which offers heated and power-adjustable front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a wiper de-icer. Throw some snow tires on and she’s ready for the winter.
