2020 Cadillac Escalade Delayed Six Months for an Awesome Reason

The 2020 Cadillac Escalade Will Ditch its Solid Rear Axle

No solid rear axles for the 2020 Cadillac Escalade. Finally, some may say. Yet, this change just delayed the new luxury SUV. According to some previous reports, the next generation of the Cadillac Escalade will hit the market in early 2020. However, this departure from solid rear axles actually put a strain onto the engineers who need just a bit more time to make it all work. Once they’re caught up, it should pan out greatly.

With independent rear axles, the ride should be plusher, the rear end of the car should receive a fine floor-stowed third row of seats and the SUV should match the Lincoln Navigator’s independent axles.

It seems that the decision has not yet been made, officially, yet GM is very close to making the much-needed change for the Escalade.

The new full-size SUV will definitely take some inspiration from the Escala concept we saw some time ago. It may mark a major design change for the whole brand.

While GM obviously should change the rear suspension to an independent set up, they definitely have to improve some other areas of the vehicle as well. And yes, we mean engines. In that regard, it seems that GM is working on a whole new family of V8 turbocharged engines for the 2020 Escalade. Hopefully, that translates to better gas mileage across the GM line of SUVs and pickups. It will all be complemented with a high-efficiency ten-speed automatic transmission and, of course, an RWD or AWD setup.

The 2020 Escalade Will Drive Itself

Sources from within the company are reporting that the new Escalade will receive a far more refined interior. It should be just luxurious enough to compete with what we’ve seen in Mercedes-Benz SUVs. That really is a tough act to follow, as the interiors in modern Mercedes-Benz vehicles are unmatched by any other in the industry. The tech GM plans to integrate into the Cadillac won’t fall short of astonishing either. Most importantly, the 2020 Escalade will get Cadillac’s Super Cruise feature seen before on the 2018 Cadillac CT6. It is a semi-autonomous hands-free driving system. It smartly uses a driver attention system and precision LiDAR map data to compute the correct trajectory and steer the car without any driver input.

“Super Cruise is a more technologically advanced hands-free driving solution, which in terms of capability, integration and validation is uniquely focused on customer convenience and safety,” said Johan de Nysschen, Cadillac president. “Cadillac’s philosophy is to elevate driving. Super Cruise enables safe, simple hands-free driving for the highway.”

With this new suite of upgrades and refinements coming to the 2020 Cadillac Escalade, we don’t think we’ll mind waiting a bit longer.

About Safet Satara

I do not have spare time. All there is is car time. 12 years and counting. I am a Central European gearhead, but you are probably thinking - aaa a disposable Borg drone! Well, actually, I like to dress up like James Bond too. The only thing I need to be him is an Aston Martin (and I love DBS more than DB5 because, reasons). That's something I guess.
