Ford’s 2021 F-150 Max Recline Seats Lay Flat for Max Nappability

Ford Knows You Work Hard And Need More Sleep, And They Now Have A Patented Solution

Ford F-150 Max Recline Seats

Ford just announced that the 2021 F-150 will get front seats optimized for napping. The Ford F-150 Max Recline Seats fold nearly flat, while the seat bottom raises to support your lower back and the upper seatback can be rotated forward to support your shoulders. Sleeping in your truck has never been so comfortable!

“The all-new Max Recline Seats in F-150 were inspired by those adjustable beds you see on TV to help make our customers more comfortable while resting in the cab. Our F-150 customers are constantly on the road or at a jobsite and being able to nab a few minutes of rest really is a boon to daily productivity.” -said Ben Kulhawik, seat design and release engineer.

2021 Ford F-150 Max Recline Seats

Ford was just granted five patents on its new Max Recline Seats. The seats use no additional motors, but instead, use a simple internal mechanism that raises the back of the seat bottom 3.5-inches upward. This fills in the gap that is usually created when reclining a car seat and provides lower back support when reclined. Additionally, the upper part of the seatback can be manually lifted up, which gives support to your shoulders and provides neck comfort.

It does look like in order to get the full lay-flat experience with these new Max Recline seats you’ll need to fold up the rear seats, to get them out of the way. An extra step and hassle maybe, but probably worth the effort. I predict lots of rear seats left in the up position all the time in many people’s trucks soon!

Napping Lay-Flat Seats

These new seats are great for naps on the job site, during your kid’s sports practice, at rest stops on long highway road trips, and so much more. Think about rolling into a campsite late at night in the rain after a long day of driving and not having to set up camp. Instead, you just hit the recline button on the seat you’re already in and getting some much-needed sleep.

While it might sound like a good feature for sleeping off a night of drinking at the bar, that is actually a really bad idea. In many states, it is illegal to be in the driver’s seat of a vehicle while intoxicated. You might get away with it if you’re alone and in the passenger seat, however. Check your local state laws on this one.

The new Max Recline seats will only be available on the Limited, Platinum, and King Ranch Ford F-150 trucks for the 2021 model year. No word yet on pricing or exact availability date.
