2021 Ford F-150 SuperCrew 4×4 V8 Platinum FX4 Video Overview

Reviewing the F-150 on an Urban Mtn Bike Adventure

2021 Ford F-150

There’s mostly just a lot to like about the 2021 Ford F-150 SuperCrew 4×4 V8 Platinum FX4. Sure it’s not perfect, but it is the best-selling truck in America for a reason.

PROS

  • We love the Max Recline seats. Naptime anywhere!
  • Massive interior volume for people and gear.
  • The 5.0L V8 puts out 400 hp and 410 lb.-ft. of torque, which is plenty of power for a 1/2 ton pickup.
  • The 10-speed transmission is one of the smoothest on the market.
  • The suspension offers a consistently smooth comfortable ride on road.
  • This is a work truck, and tons of useful power outlets, a center console desk, and a tailgate step all help get work done.
  • The Sync4 infotainment system is class-leading.

CONS

  • With quality, luxury, and tons of features comes a big price tag. Over $74,000 for our test example.
  • As with all U.S. vehicles, the F-150 continues to get bigger, which makes it more and more difficult to maneuver around city streets and/or tight trails.
  • The relatively small truck bed isn’t great for lumber or larger adventure gear like kayaks.

2021 Ford F-150 Review

The truck we had for review is a SuperCrew 4×4 V8 Platinum FX4. That’s a lot, but it means that we got a truck focused on interior space, has big power, loads of luxury, and some nice off-road bits.

While not as luxurious as the Limited trim and not nearly as off-road capable as the Raptor (or Tremor), this F-150 example is a near-perfect balance of a do it all one truck quiver.

I sadly didn’t get a chance to haul a big load, tow, or off-road with this F-150 with FX4 package during my time with it. I have full confidence that it would do all those things quite well. The off-road capability will only be hampered by the big size, low running boards, and pretty basic shocks.

If you were wondering, the FX4 package gets you off-road-tuned shocks, skid plates, and a locking rear differential. Oh, and some bedside stickers. Stickers always make things better. I hear they add horsepower and capability.

The Antimatter Blue pain on our review example is truly beautiful and looks black in certain lights. The black and Camelo leather interior is something you’d expect in a luxury car, not a pickup truck that is ready to do work and is off-road capable.
