Perfect Project Car 1966 Mustang Hardtop Sold on eBay for Only $3,850
If Only All eBay Project Cars Were This Appealing…
Updated October 29, 2018
Nothing better than finding a Mustang under thick layer of dust, isn’t it? This pony’s blue paint job was at first barely recognizable under all that dusty coating. After a few swings with dry cloth and a broomstick, however, that was no longer the case. It turns out there was the 1966 Ford Mustang Hardtop with clean body hiding under all that dust. Although eBay listing which is already expired by now remained stingy on details, judging by the pictures, we can safely assume the ‘Stang was rust-free and in very good shape in terms of body integrity. It didn’t come without problems of its own, however.
Main problem is the engine, or lack of one for that matter. After all, that’s why it sold for only $3,850. To be more precise, this blue Mustang Hardtop actually came with original 200 ci 3.3L straight-six, but it wasn’t in running condition. The engine was missing its head, and there was no replacement inside the storage. That’s not necessarily a bad thing since new owner can easily restore it to its former glory. Or put a larger V8 inside and see this pony prance. The car did come with two archaic C4 automatic transmissions, though.
1966 Mustang Hardtop was locked in storage for 14 years before being pulled out. This particular specimen features bench seat up front which was already rare back in ’66. This setup only came as an option with hardtops and convertibles. The wide armrest can flip up or down in order to provide the best possible amount of comfort. Listing didn’t say anything about mileage which made this garage find a potential gamble. Need I mention the lack of running engine again? However, for $3,850, any ’66 Mustang with straight and rust-free body is well worthy of the risk. It makes for a great project car, and its new owner is likely already working on it.
