Seven Of The Hottest ’55 – ’57 Chevy Nomads On The Planet

Chevy Nomad is at the top of the great wagon list

Updated May 23, 2018

The Chevy Nomad of ’55 – ’57 has to be among the most beloved cars of all times. We’ve collected seven of the most magnificent for your enjoyment.

Named after a two-door wagon concept car based on a Corvette, the two-door Nomad differed from other station wagons of the era in that it’s styling was more consistent with a hardtop sedan than that of a traditional station wagon. Chevrolet shared this body with  Pontiac, which marketed its version as the Pontiac Safari.

To check out the Nomads we’ve collected for you, just click on the NEXT box below and you’ll be on your way.

1956 Chevrolet Nomad

This iconic Nomad takes the traditional Fifties two-tone color scheme and amps it up with mirror-like Red and Silver Gray. It’s built on an Art Morrison chassis, the drivetrain comprised of a 350 hp LS1 V8 with a four-speed Corvette 4L60E overdrive transmission and  Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes. The build features a host of modern conveniences including air conditioning, power steering, and power windows.

1955 Chevrolet Nomad

This gorgeous Nomad was subjected to a frame off restoration where the suspension was replaced with the complete aluminum front and rear from a C4 Corvette grafted onto the original frame. The engine is a 350 hp Corvette LS1 backed by a four-speed automatic, also from a Corvette. On the inside a new two tone Camel leather interior with matching custom leather wrapped billet tilt steering wheel was installed, along with power windows and door locks. This Nomad is finished in a stunning Teal and White custom paint job.

1955 Chevrolet Nomad

This menacing black ’55 Nomad was subjected to a complete rotisserie, body-off restoration. Stuffed under the hood is one monster of a motor, a Chevrolet Performance Division 572 CID Big Block that produces an incredible 727 hp driving through an four-speed automatic transmission. To get that power to the ground is a four-bar, four-link rear suspension set-up, with 20″ front and 22″ rear Foose wheels wrapped with performance rubber. Four wheel disc brakes are on duty to haul all that power to a stop.

1955 Chevrolet Nomad

The arresting ’55 Nomad is finished in Skyline Blue and India Ivory two-tone paint, complimented by 17″ Billet Specialties wheels that look like they’ve come off a ’50s Indy race car. Under the hood is a 300 hp L-48 350 Chevy Small Block, backed up by a stout 700R4 automatic transmission. Steering has been upgraded to a faster ratio power unit. Air conditioning has been added, along with modern gauges fitted to the standard locations. The interior is finished off in a two-tone blue and beige combination.

1957 Chevrolet Nomad

This 1957 Chevrolet  Nomad is finished in a mixture of Candy Tangerine, Red and Golf Pearl paint, its chromed Coys wheels adding further to all that glitter. Powering this mobile ray of sunshine is  a 350 CID 355 hp Chevrolet Small Block V8, backed by a 700R4 automatic transmission and a Curry nine-inch Ford rear axle with 3.76:1 ring and pinion. Pulling it all to a stop are four-wheel disc brakes. On the inside, upholstered in tan, are custom bucket seats and a center console fitted with polished billet hardware and custom gauges.

1957 Chevrolet Nomad

This black ’57 Nomad may look threatening, but in reality it’s way more threatening. It’s powered by a 500 hp LS6 454 Chevrolet Big Block engine back by a Turbo 400 transmission and a Ford 9-inch rear end. The frame was removed for restoration and replaced, with front disc brakes and power steering added. On the inside is a custom leather interior and modern air conditioning.

1955 Chevrolet Nomad

Built on a Newman Car Creations frame. this ’55 carries the full independent front and rear suspension from a C4 Corvette. And the engine has an even better story. The LS1 motor was removed from a 2002 Camaro Highway Patrol interceptor. Transmission is a 4L60E. On the inside is a complete new interior, tilt steering wheel (connected to the Corvette rack and pinion), air conditioning, and power windows. Finishing off the look are a set of Cray custom wheels.

1955 Chevrolet Nomad

This delicious Nomad is finished in a Creamsicle-like Orange/Cream two-tone color combination. It’s built on an Art Morrison chassis with a modern independent front suspension and multi-link solid rear axle, utilizing coilovers all around. Between the rails is fitted a 572 CID 620 hp Chevrolet Big Block. Thirteen-inch Wilwood disc brakes are fitted at each corner, with 18″ front and 20″ rear Foose wheels. Inside the custom tan interior are power windows and modern air conditioning.
