980 Horsepower Kamaz Master Truck Ready for the 2017 Dakar Rally (Video)

The Russian off-road truck racing team Kamaz has built an all-new 980 horsepower racing truck called the “Master” for the 2017 Dakar Rally. The racing team is in hopes that this beast will bring them their 14th victory at this event. The new truck is completely redesigned from the previous trucks Kamaz has used to compete in this 1000 mile desert race in the past. The cab has been position behind instead of over the front axle to increase the maneuverability level. This concept improves the ride quality with a smoother ride and softer landings for the crew.
This enormous four-wheel drive truck is powered by a 12.5-liter diesel engine to power through the rough terrain at Dakar. The 980 horsepower motor is paired to a 16-speed ZF transmission. This unique truck designed specifically for this race is capable of reaching speeds of near 100 miles per hours. A 1,000 liter fuel tank was also incorporated to allow the Master to cover a lot of ground between fuel stops.
Kamaz lost their winning streak at Dakar in 2016 to the Iveco Racing Team and believes the new Kamaz Master will put them back on top in 2017. Time will tell if the new design and more power will result in their 14th victory.
