A Riding Group, A Cop, And A Crash – Who’s At Fault? (Video)

Published October 27, 2016

Since this video first appeared on the internet, there’s been some interesting titles accompanying it, and a whole load of mixed opinion. My favorite of these headlines asks whether the cop who attempts to pull over this riding group caused the crash that subsequently followed. The answer to that is a huge, and resounding, “no.” Now don’t get me wrong, I love stunt riding – but I prefer to see it in closed environments, with protection being worn. That’s not because I’m old fashioned, it’s more because…well, how many group riding, stunting-on-the-streets videos do you see without an accident happening in them. A small percentage, right?

And that’s exactly what happens in this one. Alarm bells should usually ring after seeing a tightly packed, group of riders and more skin on display than you want to see. This is the internet after all. It’s going to end in tears for someone. Anyway, a couple of wheelies are pulled, and the local law enforcement shows up and indicates for the group to pull over. Some look like they’re happy to follow orders, others…not so much. Either way, in the resulting confusion, one rider manages to grab a fistful of front brake and the rest is history.

The rider in question has some questionable awareness skills if you pay attention to him throughout the video, so pinning this one on the cop seems a little unfair. But what’s your opinion? Our advice on stunting: If you’re going to try your hand at stunting, gear up, and take it to a closed lot. It saves a lot of hassle in the long run!

About Joe Appleton

I’ve done a bit of work here and there in the industry – I’ve even ridden a few bikes for actual money but what it comes down to is this: I ride bikes, build bikes and occasionally crash ‘em too. I like what I like but that certainly doesn’t make my opinion any more valid than yours…
