A Sneak Peek at The Futuristic McLaren BP23 Hyper-GT

Disguised McLaren 720S Used As Test Mule For New Tech

Published December 6, 2017

Top manufacturers in the hypercar market can not afford to be left behind. McLaren has this in mind with maybe the most futuristic look we’ve ever seen. The upcoming BP23 Hyper-GT promises to be something special to replace the 5 year old Project One.

McLaren is determined to release the fastest road car they have ever made in 2019. This puts it in direct competition with the Mercedes-AMG Project One and Aston Marton Valkyrie. All of these will be hitting the market in the same year so hypercar fans have plenty to look forward to.

McLaren press releases are very light on details for the general public. The one plus two seating arrangement puts the driver in the center like the well known F1 did before. The BP23 is more meant for the road, not focused for specialized track performance. More than 1000 horsepower is coming from a 4L V8 boosted by a twin turbo setup. In order for this to be the fastest McLaren hypercar, it will have to beat a 240mph top speed. The BP23 comes with abase price of $2.5 million; only 106 units are on the production schedule.

720S Test Mule

At the moment, the only real world peeks at what McLaren Special Operations is up to is a test mule. The new tech going into the BP23 is in a clever disguise because it is under cover as a 720S. As a result, we need to lean on the digital talents of render artists such as Evren Milano.

Taking the teaser sketches that McLaren has released as a starting point, he shows us a futuristic beauty. Drawing inspiration from both the 720S and Project One, a lean and mean machine is the end result. The side skirts work with a bigger front splitter to make a more aerodynamic as well as aggressive look. We also see an air intake mounted on the roof which draws the eye and hints at extra cooling and downforce.

What do you think of this take on the teaser sketches coming out of McLaren? Has Evren Milano hit the mark or is there something that he overlooked in the design process? Until more BP23 info comes forward, it looks like imagination is all we have to go on.
