ACG Automotive Corvette Pushes over 1,000 HP

Throughout the last century, dozens of recklessly fast and raw sports cars have come and gone. Most have matured over time to become more precise and less deadly. Some, though, powered forward using the same basic design for decades. A great example of this is the Chevrolet Corvette.

Despite the numerous crashes and wrecks that resulted from the big V8 at the front of the fiberglass sports car, the design never left those factors behind and simply added fatter tires and a warning label that says, “No, seriously, don’t floor it.”

Fast forward to this year. The new Corvette Stingray has been a huge success, and the Z06 model sends a sensational 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels. 0-60 happens in under 3 seconds and for most people, this is sufficient.

For the guys over at ACG Automotive, the impressive performance numbers were not enough. With the edition of just a Halltech intake and a new ECU map, they managed to get north of 1,000 horsepower out of the Z06. From there they went on to add a carbon fiber aero package and replace a number of the interior pieces with carbon fiber.

The forged wheels are from a company called Brixton and they measure 20 x 12 at the rear and 19×10 up front. Along with the aero, these wide wheels ought to keep this crazy Corvette somewhat planted on the road surface. With 1,000 horsepower, though, there is nothing that will help you when the throttle is open and the supercharger is screaming over the sound of the exhaust.

But this car does beg the question: Why? I don’t know anyone who would call the Z06 slow or under-powered. In fact, most people seem to think it already keeps them on the edge of absolute destruction more often than they are comfortable with.

I just don’t believe that anyone needs 1,000 horsepower in a Corvette. It seems like something you would do just to brag about at your local meet. I am glad machines like this exist, but if you value your life, you may just want to look and not touch (or drive).
