5 Amazing Concept Cars With Insane Technology

Updated September 21, 2015

Concept Cars are vehicle prototype’s that have been constructed to showcase new design concepts and technologies. Often they are displayed in the world’s largest motor shows in order the gauge the opinion of the press and the public before refining them for possible production. Some concept cars have proven to be truly amazing, and these are some of the most amazing ones. As they are very rarely for road use insurance won’t be a problem because you won’t be able to get any.

Ford Nucleon

Ford Nucleon

The Ford Nucleon must be the most amazing concept car of all. It was constructed by ford in 1958 as a scale model of what a nuclear powered car would look like. It was assumed that one day nuclear power would be harnessed to power transport using small nuclear fission reactors. The concept was taken even further in the movie Back to the Future 2 in which a nuclear fusion reactor was used to power a DeLorean.

In fact there were four General Motors Firebird concept cars, Firebird models I, II, III and IV. Each was powered by a gas turbines engine, a concept that never got off the ground even though they were essentially jet planes on wheels.

BMW Gina

The BMW GINA consists of a stretchable man-made fabric that is stretched over a metal frame. The frame is adjustable which allows the driver to change the shape of the car. GINA is an acronym for “Geometry and functions In ‘N’ Adaptions”. The reason for the GINA was to allow designers to step outside their comfort zones and examine totally new concepts in car design.

Chrysler ME Four-Twelve

Chrysler ME Four-Twelve

The Chrysler ME Four-Twelve was a truly beautiful mid engine supercar that was designed to eventually go into production, though only one functioning example was ever built.  The car was powered by a 6 litre V12 engine with four turbochargers which developed 850 bhp which gave the ME a 0 to 100 mph acceleration time of 6.2 seconds and a 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of an amazing 2.9 seconds.  The estimated top speed was 248 mph. It is said that the reason it never made it to production was the high development cost.

Ford SYNus

The final concept car in our list is the Ford SYNus, and not only is it the last, it is also the ugliest. This beast of a car was designed with safety in mind, and everything else has been sacrificed; it looks like a heavy metal box on wheels. It is said to provide a private sanctuary from the world and it even has a lock down mode similar to the safety room concept. Metal shutters cover the windows and It is completely bullet proof.
