The accumulative sales of Chinese own-branded passenger vehicles in Jan-May period totaled 1,629,000 units, up 6.6% from a year earlier, compared to the 11.5% growth of JV-branded passenger vehicles and the 9.1% growth of the passenger vehicle market, accounting for 32.6% of the total passenger vehicle sales in the period. It seems the Chinese homegrown passenger vehicle makers are performing badly as the market goes downturn.
The sales of the top ten Chinese homegrown passenger vehicle makers in the first five months reached 1,277,000 units, contributing 78.4% of the total sales of Chinese homegrown passenger vehicle makers in the period.
Chery took the sales crown with sales of 253,000 units, followed by BYD, with sales of 200,000 units, Geely, with sales of 160,000 units, and Great Wall, with sales of 147,000 units.
