Bentley Throws Hat Into SUV Ring with the 2016 Bentayga

Bentley is poised to bring refinement to the luxury SUV sector with the 2016 Bentayga. As Wolfgang Dürheimer, the CEO of Bentley Motors, notes, “Bentayga is a name that reflects what we know our SUV will do better than any other car in the world – combine the best automotive luxury with outstanding performance to take the Bentley experience to new environments.” The model name is derived partly from the manufacturer’s moniker combined with that of Taiga, the largest transcontinental snow forest in the world.
The Bentayga is heavily influenced by the EXP 9 F concept, and – although specifics about the coming luxury SUV are still forthcoming – we expect it will eventually be available with a diesel engine or as a plug-in hybrid. For starters, however, the Bentley Bentayga will come with a W-12 powertrain. Judging from the photos on the manufacturer’s website, the interior will be decked out with the finest woods and leathers.
This luxury SUV is slated for an official debut later this year with the first production cars to arrive on the market in early 2016. Although the retail price is still a mystery, it is sure to be over $200K. Bentley enthusiasts expect to pay for the privilege, however, and the company has already taken at least 4000 deposits for the Bentayga to date.
