BMW i8 roadster hits the Australian tarmac with a price tag of more than $300k
BMW has updated its i8 hybrid sports car and added a soft top roof to the roadster. The soft top fitted on the roadster is capable of dropping down at speeds of up to 50km/h in around 15 seconds. BMW has also added a pop-up rear window which would help in cutting down on buffeting in the cabin at high speeds.
BMW Australia has announced the price and specification for the i8 Coupe and the Roadster. The BMW i8 coupe would start at $318,900 and the roadster would be priced at $348,900, both of which are before the on-road cost.
A three-cylinder hybrid powertrain is fitted on the Coupe and the Roadster with a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine and an electric motor which produces 275kW of power with 570Nm of torque. When all-electric mode the car give a driving range of 55km.
The i8 Roadster and Coupe are available in two new color options, the E-Cooper metallic and Donington Grey. The car has plenty of unique badges, a 20- inch wheel comes as a standard option and the Roadsters comes with a travel package which has 92L of extra storage behind the seats.
With no extra cost, a buyer can add a dry carbon interior trim with an anthracite headliner and blue seatbelts. The 2018 version comes with a central idrive screen of 10.25 inches and 11 Harman Kardon speakers.
Marc Werner, the CEO for BMW Australia said:“The BMW i8 hybrid sports car has justifiably served as a futuristic halo for the BMW brand since its introduction back in 2014.”
Marc also added “With the latest updates, including the debut of the incredible i8 Roadster, BMW is again trailblazing…..With increased power and storage capacity, it’s the best of both worlds.”
