Britain’s BBR takes the Mazda MX-5 Miata to 225 hp
This BBR Miata Makes 70 Horsepower Over The Stock Model!
Updated October 2, 2018
British automotive performance specialist BBR has launched it’s new Super 200 kit for the Mazda MX-5 Miata. The kit is available for the latest ‘ND’ version 2.0-liter MX-5. BBR has spent over two years developing the kit to improve everyday driving for the Miata enthusiast. The kit builds on their existing Super 190 kit.
The Super 200 kit raises the output of the direct-injection 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine to 205 brake horse power at 6950 rpm and 179 pound-feet of torque at 4950 rpm. The gains are impressive considering the unwilling to rev, base MX-5 Miata produces 155 bhp and 148 lb-ft. As a result, a BBR tuned MX-5 can reach 60 mph in as little as 5.65 seconds. Compare that to 7.3 seconds straight off the assembly line.
BBR’s Super 200 MX-5 outperforms the stock Miata across a full rev range. Initial testing showed a 30 lb-ft torque increase at only 3500 rpm. The tuned engine especially excels above the 5500 rpm mark, all the way up to the 7150 rpm max. The power increase at a lower rpm range translates to more exiting driving every day, not just on the track.
The Super 200 upgrade of a billet steel intake and exhaust camshafts, upgraded valve springs and retainers, bespoke four into one exhaust manifold, and cold air intake system. Also included, is BBR’s own StarChip ECU software. The software package includes revised fuel, ignition and cam timing calibration. The tuning retains Mazda’s full range of factory fail safes.
The Super 200 package is available for install now, at BBR’s Brackley shop for $3728. A DIY kit is also available for $2927. 12 to 36 month extendable warranties are also available from BBR.
BBR is offering several extra components to those looking for even more enhanced performance. Most notable, is a 2.5 inch TIG welded stainless steel exhaust center section, coupled with 2.5 inch stainless BBR silencers. Not only does this make the car sound great, but it boosts power to 215 bhp and 183 lb-ft. As if that wasn’t enough, BBR also offers a flowbench optimized gasflowed cylinder head. With this combination, BBR has measured over 225 bhp on the dyno.
Also available are a sport suspension package with Koni dampers, Eibach anti-roll bar kit and a performance brake upgrade. The brake package features Wilwood four piston calipers, BBR CNC mounting brackets, stainless steel brake lines and BP20 Street Performance brake pads.
