The BYD Flyer, not the prettiest car ever to come out of China (ok, its the damned ugliest) but it seems to be doing be very well in the developing markets, especially Egypt and Russia. The BYD costs a paltry $3,984USD off the car lot (not including taxes mind) for the cheapest economy model, rising to the dizzy heights of $5,290USD for the luxury edition. Were not sure what exactly is luxury about the luxury model, other than the fact that is has electric wing mirrors and electric windows, plus some gaudy plastic wood on the dash. The Flyer is powered by an 800cc four cylinder water cooled engine for both the standard and the luxury edition.
Personally, we at China Car Times would love to buy one, and destroy it like Jeremy Clarkson did to the Malaysian Perodua Kelisa, but we better not, as we might incur the wrath of the government and get our visas canceled, still, we can dream.
