Camaro ZL1 vs Challenger Hellcat in an 800+ Horsepower Battle (VIDEO)

When a Hellcat and a ZL1 face off, American muscle fans are the real winners

An american muscle showdown on the drag strip is a win for everyone, no matter who crosses the line first. It gets even better when both cars are pushing out over 800 horsepower to tear up the quarter mile. This promises to be a close race with a weight difference offset by the power hitting the wheels. In white we have a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and in green we see a familiar green Dodge Chalenger Hellcat.

850 Horsepower Challenger Hellcat

The Dodge Challenger Hellcat we see is one that has been featured facing off against a GT-R before. Under the hood is a 6.2L Hellcat HEMI V8 cranked up from 707 stock horsepower to an impressive 850. A full tune is the finishing touch but there’s also plenty of other work here. A custom pulley and a new cold air intake are just the beginning of its performance upgrades. There’s also a custom built exhaust system hidden in there and drag radials to top it all off. Against the GT-R, this heavyweight Challenger Hellcat shows us a modest 10.342, a good hint at possible performance against the Camaro ZL1.

800 Horsepower Camaro ZL1

The Camaro ZL1 comes with a 6.2L LT4 V8 backed by a supercharger in its stock form. This means that its starting point is a rather respectable 650 horsepower and 650 pound feet of torque. The work done to make this piece of American muscle ready for this race may look familiar. A new pulley and custom exhaust, a new cold air intake as well as a finishing tune are all in place to make 800 horsepower. The ZL1 also sits on top of new drag radials, just like its Dodge Challenger Hellcat rival.

A simultaneous tire warming burnout up to the line by both cars is music to our ears. Once both are at the line, it almost doesn’t matter who crosses the line first. Two beautiful pieces of American muscle on the track and wrenched up for better performance are a sight to see. As the tree counts down, it looks like both cars take a minor lead off before green gives the go. One of the most impressive parts of the run is the Hellcat making an improvement on its showdown with the GT-R. Check out the full video below to see just how close these two cars come in their quarter mile showdown!
