Can Nissan GT-R Nismo Hold Its Own Against McLaren 675LT in a Drag Race (VIDEO)
Published June 12, 2016
No, it can’t, but the end result is surprisingly close given the difference between the two cars. Sports cars, even in their strongest form (which Nismo certainly is for Nissan) simply can’t handle the turbo power emanating from supercars’ powertrains. This Nissan GT-R Nismo’s 600 horsepower from 3.8L twin-turbo V6 fared surprisingly good against McLaren 675LT’s devilish 666 horses coming from twin-turbo V8 of the same displacement. After all, we’ve been surprised by supercars’ lackluster performances before as well.
We’ve been able to enjoy this intense drag race battle thanks to the people from Motorsport Magazine. It was simple, really. Just the two cars and 1 kilometer (0.62 miles) of open asphalt in front of them. GT-R Nismo instantly gets the jump on McLaren, but the Brit makes a quick comeback and beats the Japanese by one second margin. It wasn’t fast enough, however, in order to beat the GT-R’s quarter mile time, so we can say this battle ends up in a draw depending on your distance focus. Not bad for $150,000 car, especially since McLaren 675LT costs a clear $200,000 more than Nissan. The video is below, as promised, and it was shot from inside the 675LT’s cabin so you can get the better grasp of the race.
