Carroll Shelby’s Personal GT350H Headed To Auction

Now you can own a piece of Carroll Shelby’s personal history

Countless cars go to auction every year in the US but few draw attention like this one will. Carroll Shelby’s personal 1966 Mustang GT350H Fastback is hitting the block in Scottsdale Arizona at Bonhams. The best part is that there is no reserve so this one will truly go to the highest bidder.

Coming from the 1966 partnership promotion between Hertz Rental Car and Shelby, this car has an impressive history. The Rent A Racer program gave customers the chance to do exactly that for $17 per day. The color comes straight from the factory in its beautiful Wimbledon White with Guardsman Blue LeMans stripes. It also comes complete with a brake booster and chrome Magnum wheels as well as a radio. The very next year, the car sees retirement and goes to a new owner with good taste in modifications.

A 1965 pod goes in with an oil pressure gauge as well as tachometer. On top of that, a new radiator and valve covers, as well as a Berry Plastiglas spoiler on the rear and a roll bar. An R Model also donates wheels on top of its apron to make a beautiful attention grabber. Carroll Shelby himself is so impressed that he has to have this GT350H to preserve it.

It lived in the Shelby collection ever since but is now heading to Bonhams to go up for sale. During its time with Shelby, this GT3350H also makes a splash in Peterson’s Complete Ford Book. On top of this, Imperial Palace Automobile Collection and the Las Vegas Shelby Collection have also seen it on display.

While sitting in the collection, Shelby brought the car back to factory specs. This means that under the hod is a small block 289 V8 that makes 306 horsepower. The three speed automatic transmission is also still intact from more than 50 years ago. In its current state, the estimates are calling a sale price between $150,000 to $200,000 later this month.
