Chinese made Lancer finally given Chinese name
Published July 22, 2009
The next generation of Soueast Mitsubishi Lancer is getting ready to roll off the production line.
The current SouEast built Lancer is somewhere between the 5th and 6th and 7th generation Lancers, and is quite frankly, nothing compared to the 8th generation model.
Thankfully, SouEast and their JV partner, Mitsubishi, do have plans to introduce the 8th Generation Lancer into the Chinese market as a domestically made product later this year. The 8th generation model is currently imported into China via the Beijing Auto Works dealerships and is priced at 200,000rmb and rising. The domestically made Lancer is expected to go head to head with a rising crop of domestically made compact cars such as the Ford Focus, Honda Civic and VW Sagitar. The domestically made Lancer is expected to have engines from 1.6l, 1.8l to 2.0l.
The Lancer has also been without a name, as the current Soueast built Lancer takes the phonetically translated è?ç?Ÿ name (Lan Se), to solve this problem, SouEast has simply called the new Lancer è?ç?Ÿ·ç¿¼ç¥ž (Lan Zhi Yi Shen), a genius move Im sure we can all agree.
A launch date for the 7th generation Lancer is not confirmed but it is expected to be around the end of the year.
