A Closer Look at the 2014 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 ABS

The current Kawasaki Ninja 1000 is already a top choice among biking enthusiasts for its high level of performance and power. This popular motorcycle has been given a makeover for 2014, which will include enhanced electronic systems and a more powerful engine. The revised models will debut at a similar asking price as the existing Ninja 1000, making it an exciting yet cost-effective motorcycle for daily use.

The 2014 model may look similar upon first glance, but it will come fully loaded with a more powerful 1043cc inline four engine, along with a remote rear spring preload adjuster. The revised bike will also have a taller sixth gear than in the past, radially-mounted front brake calipers, and a digital display that will be easier for riders to access. This combination of analogue and digital display will take the form of a central instrument cluster, providing a wide range of information on the bike’s current settings and driving conditions, for a smarter riding experience. The rear sub frame has also been revised, to make it compatible with the Quick Release hard saddlebags popular on other Kawasaki models. With these optional hard saddlebags, the Ninja 1000 will be more suitable for sport touring than past models.

To increase its appeal to touring motorcyclists, Kawasaki has also given the engine an overhaul to provide greater low and mid-range levels of torque. The intake cams have been revised on the 16-valve engine to help make the motorcycle more versatile for both sport and touring performance. Extra vents for the airbox have been added along with new cylinder passageways to allow the engine to breathe more efficiently, and velocity stacks have been added to enhance the bike’s throttle response.

Some of the most exciting new features on the Ninja 1000 are its new electronic aids. There’s a traction control system which can be used to give additional grip on the roads, with three different levels to choose from depending on road conditions. The traction control can also be turned off if desired. The modes can be controlled with a switch assembly on the left handlebar, and are also displayed on the central LCD display. There are also two different output modes to choose from, so riders can decide whether they prefer to drive at full power or at 70% of peak power. These electronic upgrades will help make the new Ninja more versatile for riders, whether they prefer to go full throttle on the motorway or need greater control on tight corners.

The overall design has been enhanced for a distinctive look on the road, with added harsh weather protection for short touring. The new front fender design is meant to give a bolder look to the bike, while also improving its aerodynamics. Front turn signals have been integrated into the bike’s fairing, using rubber mounts to minimise any damage in the event of an accident. The bike also comes equipped with LED taillights and a slim rear fender. There are three different positions to choose from for the windscreen, providing extra protection when needed.

With the additional of optional hard bags, new and improved electronics, and a more powerful engine the new Ninja 1000 ABS will appeal to a wider audience than in the past. The new Ninja will be available in two colours, Candy Cascade Blue or Candy Lime Green. These will be sure to distinguish the new models and help the bike make a solid impression out on the motorway or track.
