Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has reportedly stopped taking orders for the Dodge Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcats because of the enormous backlog of orders.

While Fiat Chysler Automobiles US confirm the hold placed on orders they haven’t announced for how long. Unnamed sources say the delay could last until August.

“Due to unprecedented demand for the 2015 Dodge Charger and Challenger SRT Hellcats,” the company said in a statement, “we are temporarily restricting orders while we validate current orders that are in the system.”

Demand for Charger and Challenger versions  of 707 horsepower cars has considerably exceeded the company’s ability to build at that pace. The result has been limited availability, which has frustrated dealers and customers.

Several weeks ago, Fiat Chrysler Automobile’s top U.S. spokesman, Gualberto Ranieri, criticized “a handful” of dealers for engaging in “unscrupulous” and potentially illegal behavior by taking orders they may be unable to fulfill.

Despite being told their allocations would be limited, some dealers have been accepting deposits for more vehicles than they will receive.
