Dodge Demon Concept Is a Devilish Idea

Way back in 1971 things were different. The Flower Power movement was still the trend. Led Zeppelin released their infamous fourth album. The album considered the greatest and most quintessential rock album ever. And no wonder with songs like Black Dog and Rock n Roll and Stairway to Heaven. The television sitcom All In The Family debuted featuring the cranky Archie Bunker. Rolls Royce went bankrupt and was nationalized. Joe Frazier defeated Mohammad Ali and Jim Morrison drowned in a bathtub. Walt Disney World opened and Dodge created a two door fastback and wanted to call it the Dodge Beaver.

That’s right I said Beaver. But after being informed by their marketing department that the word Beaver was the slang word for vagina Dodge decided to reconsider. How they landed on Dodge Demon I have no idea but it’s a hell of a lot better than Beaver.

Well now it seems Dodge wants to go retro. If not in design at least in namesake. Because it is so far removed from the original car it makes little sense they called it the demon besides stirring up retroactive emotions. The Dodge Demon concept is deigned to compete with several cars that aren’t even being manufactured anymore. Cars from dead and buried automakers like the Pontiac Solstice and the Saturn Sky. But the Mazda Miata is still in production and for the most part has enjoyed a peerless existence.

The Dodge Demon concept is a devilish idea.  It’s equipped with a relatively unimpressive 2.4 liter managing 172 horsepower and 165 lb/ft of torque. That power is matched to a six speed transmission. It’s design for leisurely cruising. Pure and simple. The thing about the Dodge Demon concept is that every component and aspect of the car is completely feasible for Dodge which makes it a very likely candidate to see production some day. The idea is that it would slide in and fill the gap just below the Dodge Viper. Or well below it, depending on how you look at it. The Dodge Demon concept has been kicking around since 2008. It’s a decent little car with loads of after market potential. The question now is figuring out what exactly it is that Dodge is waiting for. Most car makers are holding back from producing any two door roadsters for the time being considering the economic climate. So it’s not as if the Dodge Demon is off the table.

For now it’s wait and see, like so many things related to the auto world right now. Hopefully we just don’t have to wait too long.

About Calvin Escobar

The Car scene is so diverse Where I come from, most enthusiasts recognize the amazing engineering (particularly the engines). The bulk of the ridicule originates from the manner in which many of the vehicles are modded/maintained. Thus, the jokes and or hate tends to be aimed more at the owner rather than the machine. All of which makes seeing properly sorted old Toyota's and Hondas at car meets, auto shows, and track days all the more refreshing.

At Autowise, we envision ourselves as not just a automobile blog or an automobile news website, instead we see our website as a platform to connect all automobile enthusiast and provide them with all the information they need.
