Energica Add A Third Model To The Roster: The EsseEsse9 Scrambler

Introducing the electric scrambler: the Energica Eva EsseEsse9

Italian electric motorcycle manufacturer Energica aren’t just lowering their US prices, they’re also introducing a third model: the Eva EsseEsse9 Scrambler. The name might be a little long winded, but if you cast your minds back to the 2018 EICMA show in Milan, you might remember that Energica pulled the covers of quite a strange looking concept motorcycle. It was called the EsseEsse9, and man, it was interesting – to use a rather diplomatic turn of phrase.

The Energica Eva EsseEsse9 Scrambler

Based around the naked Eva street bike model, the EsseEsse9 is one of the most technologically advanced electric scramblers that we’ve ever seen. With an electric motor that’s capable of shooting out 108 hp and 132.7 lb – ft of torque, it’s quite the potent machine. While it’s not going to be as powerful as Energica’s fully faired Ego – which comes with 145 horses on tap – its designed for a completely different stye of riding. It’s a street oriented scrambler, and it looks more than up to the task.

When it first broke cover back in 2016, the EsseEsse9 boasted Ohlins suspension, Brembo brakes, wire spoked wheels, dual sport tires, with cool styling add ons that included a retro round headlight, a race number-style side panel and a pretty fancy ribbed seat. But for all the performance parts and retro-styled design elements…the bike was pretty damn ugly. Hopefully by the time the EsseEsse9 goes on sale to the general public in 2018, someone might have made it a little less offensive on the eyes.

It wouldn’t take much to turn the EsseEsse9 into something more attractive. It’s all a bit too cluttered and busy, and there are definitely too many colors splashed across the machine. The Eva and Ego models are very easy on the eyes…so we have no idea what the designers were thinking when they dreamed this one up. Maybe it was an intern project that gathered too much momentum… Either way, it needs a bit more refining if Energica plan on converting more riders to the electric motorcycle cause.
