Ford and Roush Offer New Supercharger Kit for 2018 Mustang and F-150
A Lot More Power For The V8 Machines
Published November 27, 2017
For the 2018 model year, Ford updated the five-liter V8 engine used for the Mustang GT and the F-150 truck. Unlike previous V8s, the new motor in the Mustang GT develops 460 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. Ford managed to increase the power by adding port and direct fuel injection. Since the engine was tweaked, that means updates to superchargers and turbos across the aftermarket are headed this way.
In that regard, Ford partnered with Roush (well, their partnership is 20 years old actually) to make the necessary adjustments to the supercharger. Now, they’re offering a kit which can improve the power of the V8 in the Mustang GT. The supercharger takes the 460 hp of the factory motor and dials it to a cool 700 hp and 610 lb-ft of torque.
A whole lot of added power, indeed. The supercharger system includes all installation hardware and special tuning calibration. Thanks to Roush’s partnership with Ford, the supercharger system even offers a limited warranty supported by Ford.
“Our teams collaborated to create the most highly engineered, tested and performing supercharger kit on the market,” said Jack Roush, Chairman, Board of Directors, ROUSH Performance. “The combination of the 2018 5.0-liter engine and our all-new, fully integrated 2650 supercharger system yields simply incredible, no-compromise performance.”
Available for the F150 but With a Little Less Power
In essence, one will be able to purchase the supercharged system through official Ford dealers, Ford Performance distributors, and Roush Performance dealers. As noted before, the system will work on the Ford F-150 with a V8 as well. Although, for that application, Roush and Ford Performance limited the power output at 640 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque. Not exactly a tragedy, is it?
“When you combine the efforts and expertise of two of the most respected names in racing and performance, you get a supercharger unmatched by any product on the market,” said Doug White, Global Performance Parts Manager, Ford Performance.
The price is still unknown, but the 2650 supercharger kit will become available in January 2018, so we’ll be seeing some more details as the release date gets closer.
