Ford Launches EcoSport in China

Ford have launched their latest Ecosport SUV into the Chinese market yesterday evening with pricing from 94,800RMB to 127,800RMB for the new model.
Initially Ford has launched six models, five variations on the 1.5L engine with manual and automatic transmissions being offered and the range topping 1.0L engine coming with just a manual for now, although a dual clutch engine is expected to make an appareance in the near future ? for now we can expect the 1.5L automatic/manual combination to be the biggest seller.
The Chinese made Ecosport, made by the Chang?an-Ford joint venture is actually slightly larger than its Brazilian variant. The Chinese Ecosport measures in at (LxWxH) 4280x1785x1658 and has a wheelbase of 2530mm, the Brazilian version is slightly shorter at 4241mm long and not as wide at 1765mm, the Brazilian wheelbase is also marginally shorter at 2521mm.
The 1.5L engine is Ford?s own Ti-VCT and is good for 81kw of power at 6045RPM with peak torque reaching 140Nm.
Ford have essentially had a lost decade in the Chinese market where their rivals at GM and VW have easily been able to dominate the market with a wide product portfolio split over multiple brands, but Ford are playing a strong come back with the introduction of compact SUV?s such as the Ecosport, which seem to play straight to the Chinese consumers psyche. It is too early in the day to guess sales figures, but we suspect that the new Ecosport will have a prominent place in the top ten SUV sales charts within the next few months.
