Geely are having a branding crisis, the Global Eagle brand seems to be lagging far behind the more powerful Emgrand and Englon brands. The Global Eagle line up only has two cars, the Panda and the Panda Crossover, but they are about to receive a new house guest in the form of the GC3.

The GC3 was unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show earlier this year and is likely to hit the market soon, especially as the below spy shots indicate that the GC3 is fairly close to production:

As the numbers on the rear indicate, a 1.5L engine will be placed into the GC3 when its launched, pricing has not yet been confirmed but figures of around 50,000rmb as a starting price are being mentioned.

But isnt this no more than the CK-1 death trap in disguise? Show us the engine room and we can tell.

Im uncertain about Geely naming, but is CK-1 the same as Siyoujian? I think this looks like a warmed over Siyoujian, and that car is so old it should not be reintroduced. I wonder when they will learn that a few good models is much better than a load of models old and new without any clear strategy behind them.

Yes, Knut the CK-1 is also known as the Ziyoujian or Freedom Cruiser. This car is notorious for its poor showing in crash tests. And that doesnt bode well for a company like Geely, which pursued and acquired a car company that is synonymous with safety, Volvo. I believe the platform is based on an aged Daihatsu Charade design.
