Getting a Glimpse at the 2015 Subaru BRZ STI
Published August 5, 2013
It seems that the pink badge is getting stuck on a few BRZ’S as we are seeing some convincing teaser photos circulating online. Though the pictures don’t really display a whole lot for us, we still feel like a Mennonite getting to look at some sweet sexy ankles showing on our ladies. It does however tell us much more information that we were trying to find out. First off is that Toyota spoke of x-ing the TRD edition and convertible GT-86 and Scion FR-S TRD recently thus leaving us scratching our heads and asking why? So then attention turned to Subaru to produce an STI version of the BR-Z, and with these teaser images it seems more of a possibility. Looking at the photos we see that there are some subtle changes over the base model such as a black lip hanging off the front fascia. This plus the fog lights and some badges are most of what we get to see but as an auto journalist I have to find out more information. So I traveled to Japan via Skype airlines and talked to some insiders with the project or at least they did a great job of fooling this stupid “round eye”. But it seems that Subaru had always had the intention to have a forced air induction and because of the motor mounts and the cost of re-tooling change costs don’t expect a H6. Expect the turbo and plumbing from a WRX that will deliver a smidgen over 300hp and around 300 lb·ft of torque. 300 ponies hooked to the rear wheels and a limited slip-differential means that the Subaru BRZ STI is going to be an autocross dreamboat. With the healthy dose of torque means that this 2015 Subaru BRZ STI will have a strong mix of acceleration thus possibly giving it a 0-60 in the low 5’s and if they add the possibility of launch control then this car could possibly make it in the high 4’s.
Since the 2015 Subaru BRZ STI will be turbocharged means that there will be an intercooler that either has to be placed in front of the radiator or maybe this Subaru BRZ STI will be sporting a functional hood scoop. If this is the case then theses STI’s will certainly appear different than the base model as it will likely have a small rear lip or spoiler, side skirts, different wheels (possibly gold) with some pink springs. Yes STI shit is pink and it is so awesome that your Subaru BRZ STI could drift like a champ and advertise for the Susan G Komen booby cancer foundation at the same time. In conclusion I believe Toyota is either getting into cost disputes with Subaru over the turbo systems or they hope to build yet another RWD coupe that will fit between the GT-86 and the LFA thus making it Supra-esque which equals boner town!
