GWM R&D Center Opening Ceremony

As reported several days ago, Great Wall Motors (GWM) are planning to become one of the worlds largest SUV makers and plans to take at least 8% of the world SUV market by the year 2020. GWM have plans to put 5 billion RMB ($750 million USD) into their R&D efforts in order to achieve their goal.

Work on the new R&D center, which will be based in Baoding City, South of Beijing, began today.According to media reports this new R&D center will be responsible for the entire development of GWMs new motors and will include design studios capable of designing small cars, large cars, SUVs and pick up truck ranges.

GWMs original R&D center was set up in 1998, however due to GWMs rapid expansion the center is no longer suitable to sustain GWMs rapid expansion plans. The current center already has a 5000 person strong development team, with 500 engineers and also 12 foreign members of staff and 20 overseas Chinese members of staff.
