Hennessey Beefs Up the Dodge Challenger Hellcat with 1,000 HP
Brace Yourself – This Is The 1000HP Challenger From Hennessey
Updated October 3, 2018
We all know Hennessey – the company that in 2013 beat Bugatti for the title of fastest car in the world with its Venom GT. You may also be aware of Hennessey’s performance packages for popular vehicles such as the Ford Mustang and Focus RS, Chevy Corvette, and infamously, the Dodge Viper. In true Hennessey fashion, the performance shop has now turned its gaze to the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.
The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat produces 707 HP and 660 lb.-ft. of torque from its 6.2 L HEMI V8. Not bad right? Unfortunately, the Hellcat has officially been outdone by its younger brother: the Dodge Demon. The Demon uses the same motor as its feline friend but ups the power by either 101 HP or 133 HP, and has either 717 lb.-ft. or 770 lb.-ft. of torque, depending on whether or not the owner has opted for the $1 Demon Crate option. Let’s be honest, though, who in their right mind wouldn’t take that deal?
While the Demon comes out of the factory roaring like a hellhound, Hennessey has introduced a new package, the HPE1000, to help the Dodge Challenger Hellcat hold its own against the newcomer. As the name might suggest, the HPE1000 bumps the Hellcat’s engine horsepower figure to just over 1,000. It does so by replacing the factory supercharger with a massive 4.5 L one compared to the Demon’s 2.7 L supercharger. This equates to a 0-62 mph time of just 2.8 seconds, a 0.8-second reduction from the stock Challenger Hellcat.
Hennessey took its Challenger Hellcat to the dyno to prove it meant business and figures showed 863 HP and 770 lb.-ft. of torque at the wheels. This rear-wheel monster sounds like quite a handful, and we highly recommend you crank up the volume for this video.
