High-Tech Towing Packages for GMC Sierra and Sierra HD
Published May 30, 2016
GMC recently introduced new towing packages that will be available for the 2016 Sierra and the Sierra HD. The new features include a high-tech camera system that provides the maximum amount of visibility when hooking up to a trailer or boat. Backup cameras have become very common to the automotive industry and this system takes that concept to a whole new level. This advanced system will allow the driver of the truck to line up the hitch to a trailer without the assistance of a spotter.
The standard package incorporates three cameras that provide a video feed to the IntelliLink infotainment system. One of the cameras is incorporated into the third brake light and the other two are built-in to the side mirrors. All three views can be monitored on a split screen at the same time and this system will have a price tag of $999.00. An optional fourth camera can be mounted on the trailer inside or outside. It can be mounted on the outside to show a view of the hitch connection. GMC has also suggested that this feature is ideal to mount inside of a livestock trailer to monitor the animals being transported.
GMC will also be offering a fifth-wheel hitch option for the Sierra HD with a very moderate price of $350.00. This package includes a frame-mounted hitch platform and the wiring harness. The hitch platform will accommodate a gooseneck ball hitch or a fifth-wheel hitch. This setup will support a towing capacity of up to 23,200 pounds.
