Hitting The Apex – A MotoGP Movie

Are You Ready For The “Hitting The Apex” Movie?

Updated August 9, 2018

Yes, it’s true: a MotoGP documentary movie will be coming out in theaters in the UK on the 2nd of September. Hitting The Apex is a new film by veteran motorcycle film director Mark Neale and if you don’t get goosebumps watching the trailer, then perhaps racing isn’t your sport after all.

In the past few years, motorcycle racing documentaries have really upped their game and this latest offering from Mark Neale, acclaimed director of Faster, The Doctor, The Tornado and The Kentucky Kid, and of course, Fastest, is estimated to sky rocket right up there with the best of them, including TT3D: Closer To The Edge and Why We Ride.

Hitting The Apex will follow the lives and careers of some of the sports most revered and influential riders, including Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, Dani Pedrosa, Casey Stoner and Marc Marquez whilst also exploring the risk and dangers and overall thrill of the sport, highlighted with a sensitive look at the riding style, enthusiasm and subsequent tragedy surrounding the late Marco Simoncelli. Narrated by Brad Pitt, it explores the sport with an unprecedented level of depth.

The film begins from Rossi’s departure from Yamaha to Ducati and covers the major developments between then and the start of the 2015 season: the tragic loss of Marco Simoncelli, the rise of the tenacious young champion Marc Marquez and the future of the Doctor’s legacy. The movie is not just aimed at hardcore race enthusiasts and promises to appeal to non-fans, exploring the mechanics and drama and overall atmosphere of the sport whilst also giving a secondary level of detail for those who know the sport intimately. If you’re looking for something to keep your two wheeled thirst quenched for the off-season (which could be soon, depending on your locality) then keep your ear to the ground for news of Hitting the Apex’s release.

Hitting The Apex Movie 2

It’ll be released in the UK and Ireland on the 2nd of September 2015 but when it hits North American shores is still a mystery but definitely sometime later this year.

Until then, you’ve got the rest of the 2015 season to enjoy! Lorenzo has taken the lead, Rossi can still fight back – is anyone willing to put forward a good guess as to who wins this year? My heart’s on Vale but my money is safely on Jorge…

About Joe Appleton

I’ve done a bit of work here and there in the industry – I’ve even ridden a few bikes for actual money but what it comes down to is this: I ride bikes, build bikes and occasionally crash ‘em too. I like what I like but that certainly doesn’t make my opinion any more valid than yours…
