Lordstown Motors might just be the future of the American automobile industry. The company is focused on all-electric (EV) vehicles, first bringing to market the all-electric Lordstown Endurance Pickup, scheduled for late 2020 delivery. While the current pandemic has slowed plans to get production rolling, we get a glimpse into the massive idle Lordstown Motors factory. This facility is the old General Motors Lordstown, Ohio assembly plant that they are repurposing. The facility has the capacity, but can Lordstown Motors live up to their lofty goals and the plant’s mighty legacy?

Lordstown Motors Factory
General Motors built this Lordstown, Ohio 6.2-million-square-foot automotive factory back in 1966. The plant has the capacity to crank out 420,000 vehicles per/year. Sixteen million vehicles have been produced here so far, with the final Chevrolet Cruz rolling off the line March 2019. Lordstown Motors is aiming for the first Endurance pickups to roll out of the plant in late 2020.
Lordstown Endurance Pickup
The Endurance all-electric pickup has a starting price of $52,500 before tax credits. At a minimum it qualifies for a $7,500 Federal tax credit. Pre-order customers should start seeing deliveries in late 2020. Due to the pandemic, we’re sure that the time table will be pushed back at least a few months.
The truck has some truly impressive specs on paper. We’ll have to wait and see what the final production vehicle has to offer. Lordstown is touting a 250+ mile range, 600-horsepower, AWD, 7,500-pound towing capacity, a 3-year bumper-to-bumper warranty, and more.
