Is Your Car the Peaceful Haven It Should Be?
Updated September 28, 2013
I reckon that we all need at least one peaceful haven in our lives. It could be a nice spot in your garden, your study or even your place of work. However, in many cases I reckon that our cars are the best places to feel safe, protected and cut off from the troubles of the world.
I never used to look at my vehicle in this way, to be honest. For me it was just a way of getting from A to B as quickly as possible. I always enjoyed driving but it wasn’t a highlight of my day or anything like that.
Things all changed for the better when I got a better job at work and could afford a classier car. I have never been all that fussed about going for trendy names or flashy designs but when I sat inside a couple of luxury cars I knew that one of those vehicles was going to change the way I looked at driving.
At first I didn’t really change my driving habits very much. Well, I have to confess that I started parking in a more prominent parking space outside the office. I might also have walked round it a couple of times and cleared off some microscopic pieces of dirt each time I was getting in or out of it.
A Reverse Midas Touch Day at Work
The day I realised how much of a haven a car can be came when I had a stinker of a day at work. It was one of those days when I somehow gained a reverse Midas touch and every single thing I touched turned into a disaster. My boss gave me a talking to, I lost a valuable client and I just couldn’t wait to get out of there.
My usual tactic after such a day is to rush home and throw myself into the bed. I sometimes waken up at 10 o clock with my work clothes and shoes still on and wondering where I was and why my stomach was rumbling so much. However, this day I felt a bit better as soon as I sat in the car, so I decided to go with the flow and take it a little drive.
Before I knew it I was sitting overlooking the river at a local beauty spot with some a Chinese takeaway on my lap. It might not be everyone’s idea of how to unwind after a bad day but I felt so much better after it.
Keep it Tidy
This got me wondering about what is needed to turn your car into the kind of place which helps you forget all of your problems for a while. I reckon that it needs to be clean and comfortable to start with. My older cars used to be a bit of a mess inside and it was only when I got a more expensive vehicle that I started looking after it like I should have done.
Another point is that it has to go well with your personality. I never thought that I was suited to driving a big and fairly posh car but it fits me like a glove. I had always felt a tiny bit embarrassed of my more modest cars and now I have found one which goes well with my style.
The final issue is around what you do in it. It took me an exceptionally bad day at work to break out of my routine but maybe you can do so without so much pain. It is a real shame to leave a nice vehicle sitting in the drive every day, so why don’t you take it more often? Whether you feel stressed, you have a problem solve or you simply have something you want to think about, you can find the space and peace and quiet you need in your new peaceful haven.
If you want to make your car somewhere you are happy spending more time then someJaguar car mats could be just what you need.
