Lamborghini Donates $200,000 Ride to Pope Francis
Lamborghini Absolves Its Sins with a Very Holy 572 Horsepower
Who says having the holiest job in the world can’t come with perks? The Pope of the Catholic church receives over $300 million in donations and contributions each year. Most of this money doesn’t technically belong to the Italian or Vatican governments. Last week, the well-known racing sports car manufacturer, Lamborghini, donated a Lamborghini Huracan LP580-2 to the Pope. However, the Pope, who seemed to like the car very much, will not be racing around the Vatican in the expensive gift.
The Italian supercar company made a generous donation of one of their Huracán LP580-2 models. The company’s Ad Customization department even went as far as decking the car out with its own white and yellow paint job, which resembles the colors of the Vatican’s flag. The Lamborghini Huracan is no small gift, often costing at least $200,000 base retail price. The all-wheel-drive 2-door coupe has a 5.2-liter V10 engine that puts out 572 horsepower. The car’s got a smooth dual-clutch gearbox with 7 speeds and is able to hit 0-62 mph in 3.4 seconds while reaching top speeds around 198 mph.
Upon receiving the very generous gift, Pope Francis signed the hood of the vehicle and said that it will be auctioned off for charity at an auction on May 12, 2018. The Vatican has stated that the benefits of the Huracan sales will go to benefit female victims of forced prostitution and sex trafficking, as well as families of some of the victims that ISIS and other terrorist groups have affected.
While the Pope seemed to enjoy the racecar very much, he is said to prefer much simpler car models that are eco-friendly, such as the Ford Focus that he uses often in the Vatican. He is also well-known for taking public transportation when not in the Popemobile. In his younger days, Pope Francis is said to have driven himself around in a 1984 Renault 4.
These types of gifts are nothing new for the Pope, Vatican, or Catholic Church. The Vatican bank holds over $8 billion of assets that it has acquired mostly from donations. However, it’s good to see that this generous gift will be able to benefit both Lamborghini (who has received quite a bit of good PR from their gracious gift) and to those in need that were affected by some of the world’s most heinous crimes. The gift has also delivered quite a bit of good PR to the Catholic Church and has reminded many that have read about this event that there is still some good in the world.
