Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse

Wait what? The Lamborghini Gallardo is still production? It seems that the Italians are brilliant at taking an aging edition and adding some nonsensical words to the end, then adding a spoiler and carbon bits and around 100k to the base price and calling it a limited edition. If only Dodge did this with the Avenger calling it something like the Dodge Avenger BS 173-2 Greasiea Mullette and adding a screaming eagle on the side and a Pep-Boys spoiler on the back, then they could sell it for $40k.

In all actuality the new Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse is a great take on the long running and impressive Gallardo. But the Gallardo is nearing a 10 year life span and for an Italian exotic even seems a bit long, unless your Pagani. But if we look at the LP 570-4 Squadra Corse we see that several changes have been made as they placed an updated front and rear fascia with a front spoiler as well as a carbon spoiler rear spoiler and engine cover. What is more interesting is that Lamborghini claims that because of the spoilers the car is able to produce 3 times the amount of down-force. Although I didn’t think the standard Gallardo produced any down-force at all?

The engineers worked to shed some weight inside and with components to by utilizing carbon fiber and aluminum. These changes in conjunction with lightweight wheels sets the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse at 2954lbs. The weight savings is a few hundred pounds over the base Gallardo and though it certainly is not a light car by any means, you have to remember that it has a V10 connected to an AWD system to lug around. If we look at the speed ratings we see that there is a blistering 0-62 mph time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 199. So the car is certainly capable of some impressive numbers and with $200k+ price tag it should be.

Supposedly we will see a new replacement coming for the Gallardo in the next year or two but questions remain if Audi will also be replacing components and possibly designs with their R8 along with it. As “mad scientist” as Lamborghini is getting with their designs, I suspect that we will see a very special entry level Lambo.
