Lexus LC 500 Convertible Digital Rendering and Future Variants
Renderings Prove Just How Awesome A Lexus LC 500 Convertible Could Be!
Updated October 3, 2018
When the Lexus LC 500 debuted earlier this year at the Detroit Auto Show, it was very well received by both the public and media alike. It appears as though it has had such a strong visual impact on people, that some really good renderings of are circulating on the Internet.
One such digital artist is Theophilus Chin who has done a great job retaining the lines that came from the factory.
To the untrained eye, it is difficult to spot the differences between the concept LC 500 and the production. Lexus was able to build a business case for the LC 500 in order to proceed with production of the coupe. The question here is if there is a sufficient business case for an LC 500 convertible.
Toyota is taking a bold step proceeding with the Lexus LC 500. I am reminded of the impact that the Lexus SC 300 / 400 (z30) had when it first showed up over twenty five years ago. Produced between 1991 and 2000, there were over 80,000 Lexus SC 300 and 400 cars produced. That in my mind would qualify the first generation predecessor to the LC 500 as a success. Lexus never produced a convertible version of the first-generation SC 300 / 400.
Produced between 2001 and 2010, the second generation Lexus SC430 (z40) was a convertible that utilized a retractable hard top. With over 71,000 units produced, the second generation SC 430 should also be viewed as a success.
Will we see a convertible, roadster or other variant of the Lexus LC 500?
The current CEO and grandson of the founder of Toyota, Akio Toyoda is a car guy through and through. A proven race car driver, Mr. Toyoda gave a speech in Detroit earlier this year describing a new direction for Lexus, one that involved “shedding the brand’s plain vanilla image.”
Lexus executives are also on record at the Detroit Auto Show saying that other variants of the LC 500 are on the drawing board. Is a roadster in the cards? Your guess is as good as mine but there has been mention of convertible and hybrid variants in the future.
Come later this year in November, custom parts manufacturers and tuners will be meeting in Las Vegas for their annual convention, SEMA. While we can expect to see body kits, wheels, and other accessories for the LC 500, we will have to wait and see if a convertible or other variant will be revealed.
