The MG Zero Concept car was the hot concept car at this years Beijing Auto Show, and is likely to be the most anticipated small car release of 2010 as well. An eventual launch date of the end of the year is being mentioned by the Chinese press, however it does look like the MG2 will be coming with an AMT gearbox according to these pictures:

According to the Chinese press, the MG2 will also be a Roewe 150 down the line and was developed off the Fiat Punto SCCS platform, which is apparently why early pictures of the MG2 out testing appeared to be Fiat Puntos. Whether or not there is truth in these rumors has yet to be revealed, however buying an existing platform might cut down on development time and costs.

I assume that in Europe it will get a manual or it will struggle.

Everybody in Europe hates the manual. Lets get some slush box loving going over there.

Lets not. Lets stick to the manual and stir the cogs ourselves. Much more satisfying to do.

I thought this car was to be known as the MG 3.

In Holland 95% of small cars are with manual transmission.

Maunual for me. I need to be involved with the car. Slush boxes put me to sleep. Now how about an MG Zero, with a small turbo, a slick shifting 6-speed manual, and a well sorted suspension. Oh, and killer ICE.

I just saw the MG Zero car in Shenzhen yesterday. Pretty unique looking car. They should make it looks just like the concept.
