New Golf Leaked And It Is So Yellow It Hurts
And if you don’t want a Yellow Golf GTI, it does, fortunately, come in other colors
Updated October 15, 2018
2018 VW Golf facelift is due to be revealed tomorrow, but as ever, we have some pictures leaked a few hours before. This is probably it, in all of its yellow glory. Not that we have seen many Golf finished in yellow, but on this one yellow does look like a nice fit with some kind of sporty trim that will be introduced. We may be getting that nice GT version after all.
It is not usual for a Golf to receive mid-cycle facelift with major changes. It seems Volkswagen did not change the recipe this time either. We have here the facelifted Golf which, actually, does not look that new. While the headlight graphic and possible rear light graphic had been changed, all else remained the same. Yet, the devil is in the details, and we cannot actually see them on these low-res pictures. What we can assume is that the Golf will receive a number of tech updates possibly becoming the most advanced mass-produced compact car. So, gesture control for the infotainment could get in, as well as all-new infotainment and some other small changes.
The real novelties include the integration of all new engines. The 1.4-liter TSI got a bit bigger. It will be replaced by a 1.5-liter TSI with a variable geometry turbocharger. This thing should give more bang and be more efficient compared to the old engine. And yes, this is Porsche sourced tech – in a Golf. Nice.
Obviously, the Golf will come as a three-door hatch, five-door hatch and as a Variant. Maybe the most important novelty is the introduction of the Golf GTE – a new plug-in hybrid. This may be the best way to change the perception about Volkswagen diesel cars. By changing them with polar bear friendly hybrids. All in all, the new Golf will reach us tomorrow, at least in its Euro guise, but be sure it will hit the States with the GTI version. As for the hot-hatch, expect more power. At least 240hp in its base configuration.
