Updated October 2, 2018
Classic car enthusiasts have a knack for knowing a gem when they see one, and this Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz is truly a find! Only 2,156 of the the 1956 model were ever made, and it is a stunning example of car designer Harley Earl’s mark on the automotive world. Earl was best known for his sweeping tail fins on 1950s GM models, and he is generally regarded as one of the greatest car designers in history. It is that type of history and the pristine condition of this Biarritz that has experts estimating it will go for between $190000 and $220000 when Auctions America puts it up for bidding. Its original price, incidentally, was $6,501.
While there has been some restoration work performed on this classic Cadillac Biarritz, it has been well-tended throughout the years and has only 68,301 original miles on it. This 18.5 foot long beauty’s Bahama Blue paint and white wall tires look as fresh as they did when this car hit the showroom floor, and the blue and white leather interior complete the stunning effect. The restoration was completed by Mark Barker, a “Best in Show” winner at the Concours d’Elegance of America at St. John’s.
With a 365-cid, 305-HP V-8 engine and four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission, this Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz shifts smoothly. It has also been equipped with some power features to make driving it even more of a treat, including an Autronic-Eye automatic headlight dimmer, power six-way seats, and power convertible top. It doesn’t take a seasoned classic car expert to understand at first glance why this particular model’s name translates to “the gilded one,” and whoever wins this Biarritz at auction will be quite fortunate.
